May 22nd - Toronto

Our day started with a group breakfast in the hotel where we were joined by Bob and Thelma's son, Michael and his wife, Courtney and their two children. Michael had driven up from Washington, where he lives and works for the British Government.

As we left the hotel we met up with the others all looking at Jim's magnificent Ferrari.

Jim and Leejun.

Bob and his granddaughter. He's enjoying himself, not so sure about her!

We then started our day of city sightseeing. Unfortunately, the weather had changed and it was raining as we left the hotel to take the subway.

We were on our way to see the Royal Ontario Museum which has a very interesting addition of starkly contrasting architecture by Daniel Libeskind. It is called the Michael Lee-Chin crystal.

We walked south through the university area with halls of residence.

We walked alongside Queens Park, where we saw another memorial to the Canadians who fell in the First World War.

As we walked to the City Hall Wendy took this photo of two Toronto trams.

We stopped at the Toronto City Hall, a gargantuan building with fountains in front, that wouldn't win any design prizes if I was a judge!

In the grounds in front of City Hall was a statue to Winston Churchill. The seagull on his head seemed somewhat disrespectful!

Next to City Hall is the Court House.

We next walked to the Art Gallery of Ontario, AGO, which has next door to it the most amazing structure that houses the Ontario College of Art and Design.

This London double decker bus went past us as we were leaving the gallery.

We then took the subway back to our hotel in time for me to watch some of the Champion's League Final from Madrid.

This evening we are all having a meal at a local restaurant and being joined by Bob's son and daughter-in-law.

  1. Those Toronto City Hall pictures look like two elements left over from th UN headquarters in Vinna placed either side of a model of the Millenium dome from London! As you say no prizes for architecture there.
Trip still looks to be going well and the Ferrari was cool.
Keep driving and writing Cheers PeterW from Malawi this week
